Hi Vijay,
Very informative blog. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I have been working in the dairy industry for last 11 years in NZ and now Australila , mainly in export supply chain.
Recently , have been given the responsibility to manage our 3PLs , including warehousing service providers and one of the bones of contention is damages that occur in the warehosue – during loading of the containers/ trucks or just careless handling while moving the product during put-away and picking.
While we want to measure the damanges as a ratio of damages to total outbound movement in a period ( Total Damaged Units / Total Outbound Units , in a month) , our 3PL wants to measure it as a ratio of damages to a total of inbound + outbound movement ( ( Total Damaged Units / (Total inbound + total Outbound Units ), in a month) . Of course with a bigger denominator the damage % always looks good for 3PL.
I have seen your article on WH KPIs but it does not make it clear on how the Material Handling Damanges are calculated.
I am keen to know if there is some data available on performace of Australian Warehoueses and how do they measure damages.
Best regards,
Ben Singh
